Henry Ford

...a little more about him.

Henry Ford was born in Dearborn, Michigan. His parents were of English decent, but they previously lived in Ireland before immigrating to the United States.

Henry was fascinated with mechanics and how things worked as he usually disassembled any mechanical objects. Within his neighbourhood, he was known as a watch repairer at age 15.
In 1879, Henry left for Detroit City.

He was able to become an apprentice machinist with the James F. Flower & Bros. company then he moved on to be employed at the Detroit Dry Dock Co.

Ford returned to his farm in 1882 to assist in work. During this time, he spent his time operating the family»s Westinghouse portable steam engine. His knowledge of this agriculture machinery aided in a position at the Westinghouse company as a mechanic to service their steam engines.

Henry first met his future wife, Clara Bryant, in 1885 at a New Year’s Eve ball, but it was not until winter of the next year when he saw Clara again. By 1886, they were engaged. With a cautious motive, Clara’s mother urged the couple to wait two more years to get married. On April 11, 1888, on Clara’s 22nd birthday, Clara and Henry were wed.

Edison Illuminating Company hired Ford in 1981. He was promoted to Chief Engineer in 1893, allowing him to have the spare time to focus attention on his personal pursuits in gasoline engines.

The Quadricycle was the results of his efforts in June 4, 1896. It was a self-propelled vehicle that exhibited a gasoline powered engine, a chain and a primitive transmission of 2 gears, the first for 10mph and the second for 20mph.
